At the First Turning of the Second Stair

At the First Turning of the Second Stair by Lirazal

Summary: ‘Together they are too much knowledge, all the same memories, almost completely Black as they never are when with anyone else.’ Sirius and Andromeda, the night before he runs away. Oneshot, 1,763 words.

Why You Should Care: What I love about this fic is that Sirius and Andromeda are truly Blacks in it. You read so many fics where they use Muggle slang, and swear, and act up to escape their roots. But here they are just Black children, who’re choosing to take another path. Much of the dialogue is refreshingly natural, and there’s a delicate feel to what’s said, as if it’s only held up by what’s unsaid.

Why You Might Not Care: If you don’t like the Blacks, there’s nothing for you here. And maybe this fic could do with a little touching up here and there, to make the writing less awkward in places. On the other hand, I like the way it’s a little rough and raw. Maybe you disagree. But I still reckon you should read it.

I believe you showed this to me before, Angel. It’s a wonderful rec. I quite agree with you about keeping Sirius and Andromeda true to their Black roots — they weren’t totally different people than the rest of their family from the time they were born, not in my opinion. Excellent.

      ā€œIā€™m going out with a bang.ā€

I loved the force of this fic from the beginning.

I liked it for the reasons already mentioned. It shows Sirius built up the Black Family charge over time and, well, charges of the same sign repel one another.

      Thanks for the rec!

Ah, this has always been one of my favorites…they really act like Blacks….they’re not all lovey and fluffy…and I like the colder, more cynical side of them.

Basically, anything by Lirazel is worth reading. I absolutely adore her fics.
