    Social Niceties

    Social Niceties by ChristyCorr

Summary: She may or may not blame the eggnog later on, of course. He cannot foresee whether she will, and cannot bring himself to care just yet. Oneshot, 2,250 Words.

Why You Should Care: A bit of a different spin on the coming together of James and Lily that is not so far from likely as you might think. In my experience, when two people such as these decided to bring down a wall, it’s usually with a sledgehammer and a wreaking ball. I like this piece, which slides between Lily and James POVs with surprising smoothness and dares to use parenthesis to make this more than just a few steamy minutes on the stairway, but also a story in itself. Above all, they are both completely teenagers; awkward, all hands, discovering each other physically in that unrestrained way only teenagers can. I love — love — that we never hear Lily’s answer, because we really don’t need to.

Why You Might Not Care: This is rated R, though I’m not sure it quite deserves it. There are certainly a few moments where you see why, but there’s nothing here you haven’t seen on a soap opera, so don’t let the rating scare you away. There’s just enough in it to put you in the moment with them, but it’s a stairway. How bad could it get?

I definitely didn’t think it deserved the NC-17 rating. Read it at work, and never thought “Uh-oh close browser NOW!” Nice little James-and-Lily-as-realistic-teenagers fic.

Er… when I pointed this rec out to Christy, she went, “NC17?!” Sure enough, the fic has an R rating on UR.

At any rate, excellent rec; after spending the last two and a half months talking to her /all the time/, I still hadn’t read anything she’d written. Glad I have now; it was great.

Okeedokiee… After several people informing me this fic is actually rated R instead of NC17, I fixed the rec. Sorry for the confusion. I had tagged this fic some time ago for inclusion, and seemed to remember it having a higher rating… oops.
