    Five Years

    Five Years by Tala

Summary: In 1983 the Wizarding World was just begining to recover in the aftermath of the first war against Voldemort. It was also the five year reunion for the Hogwarts class of 1978. Oneshot, 1,078 Words.

Why You Should Care: Remus lost nearly everything on Halloween in 1981, but he is the most important kind of brave when he shows up at his five-year reunion and the only one sitting at the Gryffindor table. The way he commemorates the fallen Marauders is perfect; there is no better memorial for these four carefree boys, and to see Remus go about it so quietly makes me all teary. Telling this story from the unnamed point of view of the other lone remaining Gryffindor who finds her own comfort with her Hufflepuff friends is a fair and complimentary telling, and we experience Remus’ grief second-hand. Bittersweet.

Why You Might Not Care: This is not really angst, however much it may appear so on the surface. It’s actually quite uplifting, because Remus choses to remember the lives of the Marauders and not their deaths. It’s not fluffy, either, for obvious reasons. This fic lives in that very solemn, general space in between, but all canon-Nazis will tell you that most really good fics do.

I love this fic! It’s a refreshing viewpoint and it’s so oddly moving at the end. Nice one.
