    Untidy Black Hair

    Untidy Black Hair by RubyTuesday

Summary: Because, really, that’s what it always comes down to, isn’t it? Falling in love in 13 steps. Romance, Drabble Collection, 1,881 Words.

Why You Should Care: There are hundreds of thousands of millions of words collectively written by hundreds of fanfiction writers on James and Lily; who they were, how they came together, and what their short life was like. Most of them take the form of long, multi-chaptered stories that cover every excruciating detail, but RubyTuesday takes a gentler approach. We already know the story — it’s old hat by now — and she instead takes us into the small moments that highlight the journey, the easy, simple, sometimes random moments that couldn’t possibly be relevant, and yet are. This is a series of thirteen wonderful drabbles about the Jacob’s Ladder fall into love, and it’s splendid.

Why You Might Not Care: This will not satisfy the reader who longs for Marauder adventures and the protracted, slow romantic tension of novel-length stories. It’s almost like a series of still-life portraits, like flipping back through a photo-album of James and Lily’s life. You see the pictures, and the rest you have to fill in for yourself.

the last line was brilliant but also terribly sad when you think about how it all ended
